Rath yatra 2022: Nandighosh rolls on Grand Road

Puri: After a long gap of two years, worshippers were finally able to fulfil their spiritual aspirations by pulling Lord Jagannath's Nandighosh Rath on the Bada Danda (Grand Road) here this afternoon.

While singing "Jai Jagannath," beating gongs, and playing the Dahauka Daka, thousands of worshippers pushed the Nandighosh carrying Lord Jagannath, the creator of the universe (calls that encourage devotees to pull the Rath with all force). While many others were seen standing and addressing the Lord with love and devotion by other names like "Kalia," "Jaga," and "Nilachalia," devotees were also seen kneeling before the Lord. Along the journey, worshippers continuously presented incense sticks and diyas along with their prayers.

After devotees dragged Devi Subhadra's Darpadalan Rath for a short while, pulling of Nandighosh began. The Taladhwaja of their older brother, Lord Balabhadra, was initially pulled by followers.

It should be emphasised that devotees are returning to the internationally renowned festival after a two-year absence. Due to the Covid epidemic, restrictions on their participation in the chariot festivals in 2020 and 2021 had been put in place.

The Nandighosh Rath is 44 feet and 2 inches tall, has 16 wheels, and is constructed from 832 pieces of wood logs. Garuda is its protector, and Daruka is its charioteer. Shankha, Balahaka, Suweta, and Haridashwa are the names of the four horses associated to this Rath.
