Similipal National Park Closed From Today due to monsoon

Baripada: Due to the monsoon season, Similipal National Park, Asia's second-largest biosphere reserve, in Mayurbhanj, Odisha, will be closed to visitors for four months beginning June 16.
Visitors will be denied access to the two entry points at Kaliani and Pithabata. During this time, all ecotourism complexes within the Simlipal Tiger Reserve will be closed, and jungle safari vehicles will be unavailable.
"Similipal Tiger Reserve, including all ecotourism complexes within, will be closed to all tourists/visitors from June 16, 2012." The exact reopening date will be announced later," North Similipal Forest Division tweeted.
The park, which covers 2,750 square kilometres and includes the Similipal Tiger Reserve (STR), is closed because rain during the monsoon washes away the roadways, which is also the animal's breeding season. It reopens in October or November, depending on the monsoon's departure.
