Southwest Monsoon reaches Odisha: IMD

Bhubaneswar: On Thursday, the Southwest Monsoon arrived in Odisha after a slight delay. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), it has made its way into several regions of south Odisha.
"The southwest monsoon has advanced further into some more parts of the north Arabian Sea, Gujarat state, entire Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada, some parts of south Madhya Pradesh, most parts of Vidarbha, entire Telangana, some parts of south Chhattisgarh, and south Odisha, most parts of Coastal Andhra Pradesh today, some more parts of Westcentral and northwest Bay of Bengal," the MeT office said.
Southern districts are likely to experience rain under its influence. With the flow of moisture and pre-monsoon clouds from the east strengthening towards Odisha, the state has seen an increase in rainfall activity.
"Conditions are favourable for monsoon to advance into some more parts of north Arabian Sea, Gujarat State, Madhya Pradesh, remaining parts of Vidarbha, Andhra Pradesh, Westcentral & northwest Bay of Bengal, some more parts of Chhattisgarh and Odisha, some parts of Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, remaining parts of Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and some more parts of Bihar, some parts of east Uttar Pradesh during next 2-3 days,"
The IMD had anticipated that the monsoon would arrive in Odisha on June 15 or 16.
The coming of the monsoon is unquestionably good news for agriculture, as the state has had 70% rainfall deficits thus far in June.
