State govt. declares bank holiday on Nuakhai

Bhubaneswar: Banks and other financial institutions will be closed on September 1 in observance of the Nuakhai holiday, the Odisha government declared on Monday.

In accordance with the explanation provided in Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act of 1957, the Revenue and Disasters Management Department of the State government proclaimed the bank holiday.

It should be noted that the popular festival "Nuakhai" is annually observed in western Odisha. Nabanna (cooked new rice) is presented to Goddess Samaleswari initially. Then everyone returns to their homes to continue the festival.

Every family member dons a new outfit for the occasion, and they all show each other respect and affection. Nuakhai Juhar is the name given to this rite.
