Bhubaneswar: Prashant Jagdev, a Chilika MLA, rammed into a crowd near Banpur block office in Odisha's Khurda district on Saturday, when elections for block chairman were to be place.
A total of 22 persons were hurt, including 7 police officers. This enraged the locals, who then assaulted the politician, according to sources.
The MLA, who suffered critical injuries, was treated at Tangi hospital before being sent to Bhubaneswar, according to Khurda SP Alekh Chandra Pahi.
"At this time, no casualties have been reported." He continued, "The investigation has begun, and necessary action will be done."
