Berhampur: Security personnel shot and killed a female Maoist cadre in the Sindhi forest in the Kandhamal district of Odisha's Baliguda subdistrict on Tuesday.
Although the deceased's identification has not yet been determined, the body was taken to the postmortem facility at Baliguda Subdivisional Hospital.
A joint squad of the Special Operations Group (SOG) and District Voluntary Force (DVF) was conducting a search operation in the area when the exchange of fire occurred. "A female Maoist was murdered, but others were able to escape and find refuge in the rocky terrain. "Other materials were also taken from the scene, along with a pistol made in the nation," Southern Range IG Satyabrata Bhoi said.
He continued by saying that there were about 20 Maoists at the camp and the combing operation was still going on.
This is the state's first Maoist murder of the year. During a similar exchange of fire in Tumudibandha in 2019, a female cadre was murdered. A female Maoist was shot and killed in 2017 in the Milicia reserve forest close to Barkhama in the Baliguda subdivision.
