Jharsuguda (43.4), Hirakud (42.8), and Bhubaneswar (41.4) all saw temperatures rise above 41 degrees Celsius.
By 11.30 a.m., Sambalpur had reached 41 degrees Celsius, followed by Jharsuguda at 40.6 degrees and Bhubaneswar and Hirakud at 39.6 degrees. By 8.30 a.m., the temperature in Odisha's capital had reached 34 degrees Celsius, with 71% humidity.
The MeT office has forecast no large change in the day temperature during the next 5 days with mercury hovering around 43-44 degree Celsius in interior districts of the state, which is also likely to experience isolated thunderstorm activity during this period.
Yellow warning for light to moderate rain/thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph was also issued for some parts of districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur and Jajpur this afternoon. There was also a forecast for light to moderate rain/thunderstorm with lightning for some parts of Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Ganjam, Nayagarh, Angul, Dhenkanal and Cuttack.
Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph is also likely on June 4-5.
