Bhubaneswar: Jindal Steel & Power Ltd (JSPL) intends to increase the capacity of its Angul steel plant from 6 MTPA to 25.2 MTPA by 2030. The extension will make the facility the world's largest in a single site, according to present capacities.
JSPL Chairman Naveen Jindal told Odisha Chief Secretary Suresh Chandra Mahapatra about it during a meeting on Sunday in Bhubaneswar. Jindal also met with Deoranjan Kumar Singh, the Secretary of the Ministry of Steel and Mines.
The proposed expansion of JSPL's Angul steel factory was cleared last month by a high-level clearing body led by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
Jindal congratulated the Odisha government for approving the steel plant's proposed expansion during his meeting with Mahapatra.
Jindal was accompanied to the meeting by JSPL's Managing Director VR Sharma, Director Finance NK Mishra, Manish Kharbanda, and other senior officials.
Jindal told the media after the meeting said he was confident in the Odisha government's industry-friendly policies for safeguarding the interests of state-based value-added creation industries.
The JSPL chairman praised the Odisha government's pre-emption policy for ensuring raw materials to the state's steel mills.
Jindal also praised the state government's efforts to arrange a transparent and timely auction of iron ore blocks.
When asked if JSPL would compete in the forthcoming iron ore mine auction in Odisha, the company's MD, VR Sharma, confirmed that the company would. “Regardless of the outcome of the auction, we are certain that the state government would go to great lengths to ensure raw material security for industrial units in Odisha and promote value addition of raw materials within the state through its pre-emption scheme,” he added.
