Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Vigilance Department apprehended an accountant-cum-supporting staff (contractual) at the Block Education Officer, Saintala, in Balangir on Friday for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 18,000.
According to an official release, the accused, Ajaya Khuntia, demanded illegal gratification from an assistant teacher in order to process the file of the National Pension Scheme and release the pending dearness allowance recently released by the government in his and other teachers' favor.The entire bribe money was recovered and seized from him.
While a case has been registered at Sambalpur Vigilance police station under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018, searches are underway at two locations linked to Khuntia to determine whether he had accumulated assets disproportionate to his known sources of income, it added.
