Sambalpur: Train services were disrupted early Saturday after a passenger bus collided with railway tracks near Laxmidunguri in Odisha's Sambalpur district.

After hitting a barricade, the bus en route from Bhubaneswar to Bargarh came to a halt very close to the railway tracks that run parallel to the highway. Fortunately, there was no train movement on the track at the time of the accident, so a major mishap was avoided. According to sources, a freight train passed on the railway track 10 seconds before the crash.

"We learned about the incident at 6 a.m. Someone alerted our staff, and we rushed to the location, stopping a good train. "The bus passengers had already left when we arrived," said a railway employee.

Train traffic resumed after the bus was lifted from the railway track using a crane. The GRP and Khetarajpur police have launched an investigation.
