Bhubaneswar: On Monday, Congress workers and leaders demonstrated and gheraoed the GRIDCO office in Bhubaneswar to protest frequent power outages across the state during a sweltering heatwave.

A large number of Congress workers gathered at the GRIDCO office, holding banners and shouting slogans against the Naveen Patnaik administration for the state's frequent power outages.

Protesters attempted to break through the barricades and enter the GRIDCO office building, but were stopped by police officers stationed nearby. Demonstrators were seen throwing tomatoes at the structure.

Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) president Sarat Pattanayak launched a scathing attack on the BJD government and Tata Power over erratic power supply, calling for concrete steps to ensure uninterrupted power supply to the people.

The PCC chief stated that Rs 20,000 crore was allotted for power infrastructure development in the state, of which Rs 5,000 crore was given to Tata Power when the company took over the task of power distribution.

Pattanayak claimed that there is no information about the remaining Rs 15,000 crore and demanded that the state government issue a white paper outlining the amount and explaining how it was spent.

Pattanayak, who demanded that electricity bills be issued to consumers on a specific timeline, also urged people not to pay pending electricity bills until the situation improved.

Suresh Routray, a veteran Congress leader and MLA, stated that surplus power was sold to other states during the Congress administration. Despite the fact that the state is now in power surplus, he claims that people must suffer as a result of frequent supply disruptions.
