Odisha now has 2,926 active cases, despite the fact that the test positivity rate (TPR) has risen to 7.5%.
This came amid a sharp drop in new infections in India, which recorded 10,112 cases compared to 12193 the day before.
Odisha reported 489 new cases on Saturday, 387 and 431 infections on Thursday and Friday, respectively, 377 on Wednesday, and 269 and 268 cases on Tuesday and Monday.
According to data shared by the Health Ministry, Sambalpur had a weekly TPR of 48.03% between April 16 and April 22, followed by Sonepur at 25%, Sundargarh at 20.99%, Kalahandi at 14.10%, and Nuapada at 13.94%.
The number of patients complaining of high fever and sore throat has been steadily increasing in the state. Because the majority of those being screened are positive for COVID, health officials believe that others experiencing similar symptoms may also be infected with the virus.
Following an increase in cases in two bordering blocks of Nabarangpur in the last two weeks, the Odisha government on Friday directed officials in districts bordering Chhattisgarh to keep track of people entering the state and test them for COVID-19 if they exhibit symptoms. In addition, a team of health officials led by Public Health Director Niranjan Mishra visited Koraput, Malkangiri, and Nabarangapur to assess preparedness.
This year, the state has reported three COVID-related deaths.
Meanwhile, the World Health Organization (WHO) has designated Omicron subvariant XBB.1.16 as a COVID-19 "variant of interest" (VOI) based on reports of "sustained increase" and "growth advantage" from several countries.
