Bhubaneswar: After a 10-day hiatus due to a Hanuman Jayanti group clash, internet services resumed in Odisha's Sambalpur town on Sunday, with an overall improvement in the situation, including a curfew relaxation from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Internet access has been suspended in the western Odisha town since April 13 as a precautionary measure to prevent the spread of inflammatory and false messages amid the unrest. While broadband and leased line services were restored for a seven-hour period from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., mobile internet service was suspended until April 22.

A toll-free number has also been established for the public to report the distribution of inappropriate messages or posts containing hate speech or false news.

On Saturday, the Muslim community in town observed Eid with prayers at various mosques. Due to district administration restrictions on gatherings, there was no mass prayer at Eidgah in Sakhipara.

Meanwhile, the Odisha unit of the BJP has requested that the National Investigation Agency (NIA) investigate the alleged conspiracy behind the clashes on April 12 and 14.
