Bhubaneswar: A cyclonic circulation is expected to form over the Southeast Bay of Bengal around May 6. Under its influence, a low pressure area is expected to form over the same region around May 7, and it is expected to consolidate into a depression over the Southeast Bay of Bengal on May 8, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday.

According to Tropical Weather Outlook, the system will intensify into a severe cyclonic storm over southeast bob on May 9 and move nearly north-northeastwards towards eastcentral Bay of Bengal until May 12.

The Met Office also stated there is a good chance of intensifying as it moves nearly northwards towards the central Bay of Bengal. "Details about its path and intensification will be provided after the low pressure area forms." "The system is under surveillance and is regularly monitored," it added.

If the system strengthens into a cyclonic storm, it will be dubbed 'Mocha,' after Yemen. Mokka is a port city on Yemen's Red Sea coast.

Notably, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik presided over a high-level meeting on Tuesday to assess preparedness. SRC Satyabrata Sahu stated that round-the-clock control rooms have been established after discussions with Collectors from 18 districts. According to him, 17 NDRF and 20 ODRAF teams have been kept ready in case of a cyclone.
