Fake Drugs Worth Crores Being Supplied To Odisha Seized In UP, One Held
In connection with the recovery of spurious drugs in two districts of Odisha allegedly procured from the northern state, another man was arrested and fake medicines worth over Rs 7.35 crore were seized in Uttar Pradesh.
Bhubaneswar: In connection with the recovery of spurious drugs in two districts of Odisha allegedly procured from the northern state, another man was arrested and fake medicines worth over Rs 7.35 crore were seized in Uttar Pradesh.
The arrest was made after the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) raided a house in the Sigra area on Wednesday, according to official sources on Thursday.
The operation was launched by the UP STF in response to information provided by the Odisha Health Department to the Uttar Pradesh government following fake drug seizures in the districts of Bargarh and Jharsuguda. The seized counterfeit medicines were allegedly obtained in Uttar Pradesh.
During the raid, the accused, Ashok Kumar of Bulandshahar under Secunderabad police limits in Uttar Pradesh, was apprehended.
Based on his confession, UP police raided another godown in Lahartara and recovered a large quantity of fake drugs. The worth of the counterfeit drugs was estimated to be around Rs 7.35 crore. According to the sources, cash worth Rs 4 lakh was also recovered on the spot.
It is said to be one of the largest bogus drug ring busted. The accused is currently being interrogated.
It should be noted that in December of last year, a large quantity of fake drugs were seized from two agencies in the districts of Jharsuguda and Bargarh. According to information provided by the UP government, the phony drugs were supplied by three Varanasi-based firms whose drug licenses had been revoked.
