Balangir: Five people, including two children, were killed when their car rammed a truck Chuinbandha on the Balangir-Sambalpur NH-26 late Tuesday.
Atmaj Nayak (25), his sister Ipsita Sai (27), her daughter Riya (6), Atmaj's uncle Deeptiranjan Sai (35) and his daughter Anvi (6) have all died. Atmaj's mother Arati (47) and Deeptiranjan's wife Rasmita (29), both of whom suffered severe injuries, are being treated at VIMSAR in Burla.
According to sources, the accident occurred when the driver of the car lost control of the vehicle and rammed a stationary truck parked along the road on their way home from a wedding in Agalpur. Atmaj was behind the wheel.
The collision killed five of the vehicle's occupants on the spot. According to the sources, the family was from Ramjeepada in Balangir.
Police recovered the bodies and rescued the victims after being notified. The incident is currently being investigated.
