Phulbani: The vice-chairman of Phiringia block in Odisha's Kandhamal district was arrested for allegedly staging his own kidnapping.

In addition to block Vice-Chairman Ajit Kumar Sahu, five of his associates were arrested in connection with the fabricated kidnapping. The police also seized three vehicles in connection with the incident.

According to sources, Sahu went missing on June 2 from Jajespanga ghat, and his associates Biranchi Mallick and Basanta Mallick filed a FIR at the Phiringia police station.

Following the complaint, police launched an investigation and discovered Sahu from the Sudra market in Baliguda. During interrogation, it was discovered that Sahu had staged his kidnapping. Sahu admitted to the phony kidnapping plot and told police that they staged the drama to gain sympathy.

Based on Sahu’s statement, his five associates – Biranchi, Basanta, Ajit Rana, Trilochan Jhankar and Jukteswar Rana were arrested for helping him in the fake abduction plot.

According to police, a case has been filed at the Phiringia police station, and Sahu and his five associates will be taken to court.

Sahu stated that he had no intention of causing trouble for the administration and simply wanted to know how supportive people are of him.
