Jharsuguda: Samarth Agrawal, a Class X student, was allegedly kidnapped for Rs 50 lakh ransom from his apartment in Odisha's Jharsuguda town on Monday, near a river under Bheden police limits in Odisha's Bargarh district, police said on Wednesday.
Jharsuguda SP Parmar Smit Parshottamdas told a press conference here that the kidnappers demanded Rs 50 lakh from the boy's father, Sunit Agrawal. "However, his semi-burnt body was discovered this morning near the Jhaijora river near Deshbhatli," he said.
According to the SP, the investigation revealed that two or three people in a blue car dumped the half-burned body near the river. He went on to say that two people had been arrested in connection with the incident.
"After scanning CCTV footage, other electronic evidence, and information from the neighboring district, we apprehended two people - Amit Kumar Sharma and Dinesh Agarwal - on the intervening night of March 28 and 29." Interrogation revealed that Amit Kumar Sharma was close to the missing boy's family. "Because Sharma knew the victim, he accompanied him without suspecting any wrongdoing," he said.
According to him, the accused murdered the boy early on March 28 and disposed of his body in Bargarh.
The boy's father claimed in his complaint that his 14-year-old son was kidnapped from his apartment in Sarabahal, Jharsuguda, on Monday afternoon. He then received a call from an unknown person demanding Rs 50 lakh to release his son. Following the receipt of a complaint, three police special teams were formed to locate the missing boy.
He added that more investigation is being conducted to determine the motive behind this kidnapping-murder.
