Bhubaneswar: In the early hours of Wednesday, armed miscreants chased and hacked to death a man near Unit-I High School in Odisha's capital.

The deceased has been identified as Sushant Nayak aka Kalia (35), a Horticulture Department employee.

According to sources, Sushant was attacked with a sword while returning home after dropping his wife, a BMC employee. Around 4.45 a.m., his sister-in-law discovered the body in a pool of blood.

The murder is suspected to be the result of a month-old police complaint filed by Sushant's family against some slum residents in connection with an alleged rape of his minor cousin. According to family members, the suspected attackers have fled.

When the Capital Police were informed of the murder, they went to the scene and began an investigation. Sushant's phone and motorcycle have been seized.
