Balangir: Unidentified miscreants allegedly attacked them with sharp weapons in Odisha's Balangir district late Tuesday, killing one and critically injuring another.

Saroj Panigrahi, a resident of Sarobarapada, has been identified as the deceased. Prema Sahu, the injured, is from Kandhapalipada, a town in western Odisha.

According to sources, the incident occurred near Nrusingha Temple while the two youths were returning home from the Sital Sasthi Yatra. They were stopped by some miscreants on two-wheelers, which sparked an argument before one of them pulled out a knife and attacked the duo. Saroj and Prema were rushed to Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital, where they were profusely bleeding. Saroj, on the other hand, died as a result of his injuries.

Prema is being treated in the hospital, and his condition is described as critical.

Balangir Town police have launched an investigation to find the perpetrators.
