A man was allegedly tied to a pole and beaten to death by locals in Odisha's Ganjam district who suspected him of being a thief.

According to a delayed report, five people have been arrested in connection with the incident that occurred at Chingudighai under the jurisdiction of Purusottampur police station on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday.
Bahuda Sahoo of Puri district has been identified as the deceased.
According to sources, Sahoo was found wandering around the village when some villagers apprehended him and questioned him about his identity. He was asked why he was loitering in the neighborhood.
Suspecting that he had come to the village to commit robbery, the villagers tied him to an electric pole and mercilessly thrashed him, resulting in his death.
According to reports, a video of the incident has gone viral on social media platforms.
According to police, the villagers dumped his body under a tree near a local school after the man died.
Following the incident, Sahoo's brother filed a written complaint with the police. Based on the complaint, police filed a murder case and launched an investigation, leading to the arrest of five people. More people are expected to be arrested as a result of their involvement in the crime, they added.
