Kendrapada: On Thursday, lakhs of rupees from 'unknown sources' were credited to more than 40 bank accounts at Odisha Gramya Bank's Batipada branch in Odisha's Kendrapada district.

According to sources, people began flocking to the bank after receiving text messages on their phones indicating that amounts ranging from few thousand rupees to Rs 2 lakh had been credited to their accounts. Some were seen withdrawing money from their accounts. The withdrawal was later momentarily halted by bank officials due to the hurry and suspect source of the funds.

Pratap Pradhan, Branch Manager, stated that money had been credited from Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima. "Customers received money ranging from Rs 2,000 to Rs 30,000, but the sources are unknown." "Until noon, 15-20 people withdrew money before it was paused," he claimed.

He stated that an investigation is underway to determine the source of the funds.
