Bhubaneswar: COVID-19 Omicron is five times more transmissible than COVID-19 Delta, and those afflicted will be confined in different wards in hospitals, according to Public Health Director Niranjan Mishra.

"In Omicron situations, home isolation is strictly prohibited. "In hospitals, separate wards will be built up for persons infected with this variant of COVID to guarantee they do not come into contact with other patients," he said.

He stated that the health agency is keeping a close eye on foreign returnees.

Following the discovery of an Omicron strain in Vizianagaram in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh, the Odisha government issued a notice in regions bordering Andhra Pradesh. In these districts, the state has intensified surveillance, testing, and vaccination.

Local officials and village heads have also been asked to tell the surveillance team about foreign travellers and any suspected cases in their districts, according to the Public Health Director. "The government is also keeping a close eye on residents who register with the Air Suvidha portal," he added.

COVID positive people's samples given to the Institute of Life Sciences in Bhubaneswar for genome sequencing, including overseas travellers and clusters in Burla and Mayurbhanj, have tested negative for Omicron so far.

COVID-19 symptoms such as cough, runny nose, high fever, and sore throat are absent in Omicron patients. Severe headaches, bodily pain, tiredness, a mild temperature, and a somewhat scratchy throat are the most common complaints.
