Bhubaneswar: A woman threw out a newborn boy from an auto-rickshaw on the roadside near Acharya Vihar today, in an incident that is more unbelievable than bizarre. Soon after, almost as if on cue, another woman arrived on an auto-rickshaw, picked up the baby, and drove away.

The NGO Childline received information about the incident from bystanders and rushed to the scene, where they made contact with the Sahid Nagar police. Members of Childline were able to obtain the auto-rickshaw registration number. This aided the police in tracking it down and rescuing the baby.

The police took an hour to extract the baby from the Akhandalamani slum. The baby was brought before the Additional Child Welfare Committee (CWC) and was admitted to Capital Hospital for a medical examination.

An FIR has been filed at the police station, and an investigation has begun.
