Bhubaneswar: The question hour in the Odisha Assembly was disrupted on Wednesday amid uproarious scenes as BJP MLAs raised a ruckus alleging police excesses during the party's Yuva Morcha rally in Bhubaneswar.

As soon as the House assembled for the day, BJP legislators were on their feet to protest alleged police action against the party's youth wing activists when they staged a demonstration in the state capital on Tuesday.

The BJP lawmakers rushed to the House well holding posters, causing chaos. They demanded a statement from the government regarding the incident.

Proceedings during question hour were disrupted due to the uproar, making it difficult to conduct business in the House.

Speaker Bikram Keshari Arukha adjourned the House until 11.30 a.m. as the chaos continued.

Speaking to reporters outside the House, BJP chief whip Mohan Majhi claimed that the Yuva Morcha activists were beaten up on purpose by police officers during their rally. He claimed that even ruling BJD 'goons' joined the police in attacking BJP activists.

However, he claimed that the police made a false claim that they were attacked by demonstrators.

"We brought it up in the Assembly. "We want the Home Minister to explain what happened yesterday," a senior BJP lawmaker said.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday night, BJP leaders and workers protested in front of the Capital Police Station in Bhubaneswar, alleging police excesses during their protest at Lower PMG Square.

The saffron party has accused the police of thrashing many of their workers during a protest against the Naba Das murder case and the alleged deterioration of law and order in the state.

Several women party workers were also misbehaved by police during the protest, the BJP alleged.
