On Wednesday, the body of a woman student at Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT), Burla was discovered, more than 12 hours after she allegedly jumped into a power channel in Odisha's Sambalpur district.

Sambalpur: On Wednesday, the body of a woman student at Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT), Burla was discovered, more than 12 hours after she allegedly jumped into a power channel in Odisha's Sambalpur district.

According to sources, the body was discovered in the power channel after more than 12 hours of searching, which began on Tuesday night.

Chinmayee Priyadarshini Sahoo, the student, had gone missing after jumping off the power channel bridge on Tuesday night.

Chinmayi, a student at the varsity's Information Technology department, was from the Rampur Madanpur area of Kalahandi district. She received her degree at the university's convocation ceremony on Tuesday. She was supposed to take the bus home after the function.

However, she had an altercation with a youth last night following which she jumped off the bridge. The precise reason for her departure remained unknown.

Burla police had summoned the youth for questioning following the incident. Following the preliminary investigation, it was discovered that the youth was a classmate of the female student. The police also confiscated two of the youth's cellphones as part of the investigation, according to the sources.
