Odisha train mishap: Newly married couple separated in the mishap, reunited in hospital

They were married in holy matrimony but divorced within 48 hours. Deepika Pali (26) and Mohammed Rafiq (29) were married on May 31 and were traveling on the ill-fated Coromandal Express from Shalimar to Visakhapatnam. Two days later, neither knew if the other was still alive.

Bhubaneswar: They were married in holy matrimony but divorced within 48 hours. Deepika Pali (26) and Mohammed Rafiq (29) were married on May 31 and were traveling on the ill-fated Coromandal Express from Shalimar to Visakhapatnam. Two days later, neither knew if the other was still alive.

Deepika suffered injuries to her head, hand, and waist in the mishap, while Rafiq, who works in a hotel in Visakhapatnam, fractured a leg. The couple was taken unconscious to SCB Medical College and Hospital. Rafiq was admitted to the Trauma ward while Deepika was admitted to the Surgery ward.

Deepika regained consciousness on Monday and inquired about Rafiq. When the hospital administration learned of her plight, they checked the admission register and found Rafiq in the Trauma ward.

On Tuesday, the couple was reunited in the trauma ward. Deepika stated that they married on May 31 and began their journey on June 2, never expecting things to take such a turn.

Deepika was released on Wednesday, but Rafiq is still in the hospital.
