Anti-corruption vigilance officers in Odisha recently discovered 52 plots and six multi-storey buildings connected to a senior officer in the excise department, just two days after they found 34 plots and houses owned by an engineer. Acting on complaints about the officer's ownership of property surpassing his known sources of income, a team of vigilance officers conducted raids at 10 locations associated with Rama Chandra Mishra, joint commissioner of the excise department. During the raids, the team found six multi-storey buildings, 52 plots, approximately 230 grams of gold, and other items in possession of Mishra and his family. Mishra is currently being questioned regarding the source of these assets, and the assessment of his investments in shares, mutual funds, and premium deposits in insurance companies is still ongoing. Additionally, the searches are being carried out under warrants issued by the Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar. Mishra, who is set to retire in eight months, has denied the allegations, stating that he has not acquired wealth through improper means.
