Cuttack: Due to an alleged transfusion of the incorrect blood type, a patient receiving treatment at a private hospital in Cuttack, Odisha, grew critically ill and needed to be moved to the intensive care unit.

The patient has been identified as Jhola Sahi resident Bibhuti Bhusan Jena, age 74. His condition is currently listed as stable.

Abhisek Jena, the patient's son, informed the reporters that they went to the Central Red Cross Blood Bank to obtain A+ blood since the patient was experiencing a hemoglobin shortage. "The transfusion was promptly halted after 5 to 10 minutes since his condition deteriorated. Even though the packet read A+, we had the blood analyzed at a private facility and discovered that it was B+ type, the man added.

He continued that A+ blood was specifically specified on the procurement form.

Notably, receiving the incorrect blood type during transfusion can result in a strong reaction that could be life-threatening.

Local media cited the director of the blood bank as saying that an investigation into the occurrence would be performed after receiving a report from the physician attending to the patient.
