Bhubaneswar: On Wednesday night, popular Odisha actor Pintu Nanda died while receiving treatment at a private hospital in Hyderabad. He was 47.

Last week, the actor was transferred from the Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences (ILBS) in New Delhi to Yashoda Hospital in Hyderabad for better treatment. He was diagnosed with 'Acute On Chronic Liver Failure' and told he needed a liver transplant.

Fellow actor Sritam Das tweeted last afternoon that his condition remained critical and that he needed everyone's prayers. A family member was supposed to donate a liver to Nanda, but that did not work out due to a mismatch in blood group and other factors, and he died at the hospital around 11:25 p.m.

Nanda made his Ollywood debut in 1996 with 'Koili,' and won hearts with his performance in 'Randi Pua Ananta,' which aired on DD. He appeared in over 70 films and received a State Film Award for Best Comedian in 'Wrong Number' (2002).

He gave his most memorable performance in Sabyasachi Mohapatra's 'Jai Jagannatha,' in which he played Lord Balarama. His other movies include 'Prema Rutu Aslilare' (2006), 'Dosti' (2011), 'Hata Dhari Chalutha' (2013) and 'Rumku Jhumana' (2013). Nanda also performed in Shailendra Parida's Katha Deli Matha Chuin (2017).

Odia album number 'E Gaura Aji Kali Kana Khauchu' also helped him gain fame.
