Bhubaneswar: Odisha MLA's niece was found hanging at his home in Bhubaneswar's Kharavela Nagar area.

According to reports, the deceased is the niece of Naba Charan Majhi, MLA from Rairangpur in Mayurbhanj district. The girl was a Plus II Arts student at a Bhubaneswar-based private college. She had been staying with her brother at the Kharavela Nagar police station's quarters for the past year.

On Saturday night, the girl reportedly went to sleep after finishing her studies. On Sunday, however, she did not open the door. Despite numerous knocks on the room's door, there was no response.

Her family members called the police because they suspected something was wrong. A police team arrived at the scene and broke open the door to discover the body draped over a ceiling fan with a dupatta.

The body was recovered by police and transported to the Capital Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
While the girl was suspected of committing suicide by hanging herself, the police had yet to determine the exact cause of death.

Police have begun an investigation by recording the family members' statements. According to sources, the deceased's cellphone has also been seized for examination. More information is awaited.
