Koraput: On Tuesday, a Maoist banner protesting the construction of a dam across the Jhanjhavati river near Chintaguda village was spotted in the Narayanpatna region of Koraput district.
The banner was erected by the banned outfit's Srikakulam committee division. "The tribals own the river, the forest, and the land." We will not tolerate government meddling in their lives. "No work will be permitted here," the banner stated.
The dam's construction is expected to cost Rs 140 crore.
While the poster has caused panic among residents, Koraput SP Abhinav Sonkar has announced that police and CRPF personnel have launched a search operation in the area.
