Bhubaneswar: Rituals at the Lingaraj Temple in the capital of Odisha were interrupted once more on Monday night as a result of a dispute between two groups of servitors over the "Paita Lagi Niti."

Badu Nijog and Puja Panda servitors are the two factions.

Since yesterday's Badasinghara Besa, the rites have been put on hold. According to Rajkishore Mohapatra, manager of the Lingaraj Temple, "the disagreement between the two servitor groups over offering 'paita' to the Lord has been going on since 2020.

According to the temple's book of rights, the presiding god receives 27 pieces of silk thread (Paita) from the Badu Nijog servants. However, the Badu Nijog counterparts could donate the remaining 24 sacred threads, which the Puja Panda servitors claim is "unacceptable," while they were only allowed to offer three "paitas."

The state government, Endowment Commission, and temple trust board were singled out for blame by the servitors for the ongoing mess. The Lords "would not have gone without food" if the temple administration had issued a temporary order, they continued.

Since last night, no 'bhog' has been offered to the presiding deity.

Notably, the Orissa High Court had decided in 2012 that nobody may interrupt the rites in the 11th-century shrine.
