Odisha Airport Director: No Scheduled Flights By Foreign Airlines

Bhubaneswar: As fears about Omicron spread and India tightens rules for international flyers arriving from 'at risk' countries, Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) Director Pravat Ranjan Beuria said on Monday that there was no need to be concerned because no foreign airline was currently operating scheduled flights to Bhubaneswar due to COVID.

Even if the Centre approves international flights from December 15, according to Beuria, no foreign airline has proposed resuming flights to Bhubaneswar in the next month, therefore there was no need for screening and testing here.

"When foreign airlines are permitted to fly to Bhubaneswar, we will contact the Odisha government to conduct passenger screening and testing," he said.

Only non-scheduled planes are currently landing at BPIA, according to Beuria, but non-scheduled flights from 'at risk' nations will not be allowed to land in the state.

The Centre toughened requirements for international travellers on Sunday, requiring the submission of 14 days' worth of travel history and a self-declaration form using the online Air Suvidha site.

They must also submit a negative RT-PCR test result obtained within 72 hours of departure. The new guidelines will take effect on December 1st.
