Bhubaneswar: On Monday, students from Utkal University demonstrated on their campus in Bhubaneswar's Vani Vihar over a range of issues concerning hostel conditions.

The students demonstrated in front of the PG Council Office, citing a delay in the allocation of dormitory accommodations to new students.

Several first-year PG students said that their studies began on August 21, but that their hostel accommodations had yet to be assigned to them. Though the authorities' attention was called to the situation multiple times, they stated that no action had been taken.

As a result, their studies have suffered, they claim, adding that nearly 200 students, including first- and second-year students, met with the PG Council Chairman and Superintendent on Monday.

Students have been guaranteed that first-year students will be assigned to hostel rooms within the following two to three days. According to sources, some measures will also be taken to ensure that second-year students have single rooms.

The activists also brought up various other complaints with the superintendent, such as drinking water and other hostel conditions.
