A social organization has called for a dawn-to-dusk shutdown on May 15 in Odisha's Mayurbhanj district to protest the recent blackout of President Droupadi Murmu's convocation speech at the Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University (MSCBU).
Baripada: A social organization has called for a dawn-to-dusk shutdown on May 15 in Odisha's Mayurbhanj district to protest the recent blackout of President Droupadi Murmu's convocation speech at the Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University (MSCBU).
Bhanja Sena has declared a 12-hour bandh on May 15 from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. According to Bhanja Sena leaders, the bandh will be observed throughout the Mayurbhanj district.
They were outraged when the university auditorium went dark during the President's speech in Baripada on May 6, saying it was an insult to Murmu, who is from the Mayurbhanj district.
As a result, a bandh will be observed for 12 hours throughout the tribal-dominated district in protest and to demand harsh punishment for those responsible for the incident.
On May 6, the President, who was on a three-day visit to her home district of Mayurbhanj, was delivering the 12th convocation address at the university auditorium when the lights went out for nine minutes.
While a university employee was suspended, a three-member committee was formed to investigate the incident. The state government has also ordered an investigation into the incident.
