Kalahandi: On Wednesday morning, a pick-up van carrying jackfruits skidded off the Ghat road and fell into a gorge in Dharmagarh sub-division of Odisha's Kalahandi district, killing two people and critically injuring nine others.

The tragic accident occurred when the pick-up van's driver lost control and the vehicle plunged 40 feet into a gorge on the Dhulu Ghat road in the Jaiapatna police limits. The driver died on the spot, while an elderly woman died in the hospital.

The injured were taken to Jaipatna Hospital.

Eleven people were on board the vehicle, which was heading to Jaipatna. The vehicle has been seized by police, and an investigation has begun.
