Berhampur: After at least 12 people were killed in a horrific road accident in Odisha's Ganjam district, it was discovered that the private bus involved in the accident was operating without a permit or insurance.

According to Ganjam RTO Manas Sahu, the private bus that collided with an OCRTC bus did not have a permit to operate at night.

He stated that the vehicle also lacked insurance and that the owner of the bus is to blame for the tragic accident and that action will be taken against him.

According to reports, the axle of the 25-year-old bus was damaged.

A complaint has been filed with the police, and an investigation is underway.

According to sources, the vehicle was registered on March 26, 1998, and its registration is valid until November 24, 2023. However, the bus's insurance has expired, as it was only valid until April 13, 2023. The issuance of the vehicle's fitness certificate has now been called into question.

When a private bus carrying a wedding party and an OSRTC bus collided head-on near Digapahandi on the Berhampur-Taptapani road in Ganjam district in the early hours of Monday, at least 12 people were killed and several others were critically injured.

The injured were taken to MKCG Medical College and Hospital for treatment. Two of the injured were taken to Cuttack's SCB Medical College and Hospital.
