CDPO gets two-year jail term in bribery case in Koraput
Koraput: A special vigilance court in Odisha sentenced a Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) to two years of harsh jail for receiving bribe from a mother in 2009.
In addition to convicting Swarnava Das on Friday, the Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Jeypore also levied a Rs 5,000 punishment. She will be sentenced to a three-month additional jail term if the fine is not paid.
Das, who had served as the CDPO of the district's Kotpad block in Lamtaput, Koraput, is currently employed in this position.
She was on trial for illegally taking Rs 10,000 in gratification from a complaint in order to be hired as an Anganwadi worker in 2009. Following Das' conviction, the vigilance wing would petition the appropriate authority for her expulsion from service, according to sources.
