Cuttack: OTET aspirants protest ‘faulty’ evaluation

Cuttack: Hundreds of teachers continued to demonstrate in front of the Board of Secondary Education (BSE) office in Cuttack, Odisha, in protest over suspected anomalies in the Odisha Teachers Eligibility Test results (OTET).

According to the instructors who were protesting, the BSE announced the results of the special OTET, which it held on August 29 last year, on January 9. The following day, the Board released amended results.

However, they said that in the updated results, candidates who had failed in the original announcement were deemed passed, while those who had passed with a high percentage of marks were marked as failing. They urged that the Board assure fair testing and offer them extra credit for their experience.

The instructors from various sections of the state claimed that despite having taken the OTET multiple times, they had not qualified. The government should consider our teaching experience and assist them in passing the test with grace marks. However, the Board of Directors has voted down their request, arguing that they cannot do so without authorization or an order from the government.

Given the BSE's stern stance, the teachers have decided to continue their three-day protest, and if it fails to produce results, they have vowed to go to court.
