Group clash halts internet services in Keonjhar

Keonjhar: In the mining town of Joda in Odisha's Keonjhar district, authorities on Tuesday halted Internet services and extended prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CrPC till 10 a.m. on Wednesday.
During this day, all schools, colleges, shops, and businesses will be closed.
Tensions remain high in Joda, a day after the administration imposed Section 144 following communal violence during Ram Navami celebrations. In the area, eight police platoons have been deployed.
A group intended to hold a 'Akhada' procession to a Shiva temple in Ward 4 of the town as part of Ram Navami celebrations on Monday.
After the authorities declined their request, the organisation promised that the parade would be held with only five people. Permission was once again denied by the police.
The group staged a dharna in protest, and after a while, some members joined the procession, only to be halted by minority community members. Stones and bottles were thrown at each other in a conflict between the two communities. To disperse the mob, police and administration raced to the scene and used lathi-charge. The violence resulted in a large number of injuries. Section 144 was enacted afterwards.
