Heatwave warning issued for 11 districts today

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) announced on Friday that eleven districts in Odisha are anticipated to experience heatwave conditions in the next 24 hours.

Sambalpur, Sonepur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Deogarh, Bargarh, Boudh, Balangir, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, and Angul have all been issued a heatwave warning. While the temperature in the state's interior districts is unlikely to vary considerably over the next two days, it is forecast to remain 2-3 degrees above normal.

The previous day's maximum temperature had exceeded 43 degrees Celsius in 13 locations, with Boudh being the hottest at 45 degrees Celsius.

From May 1, the IMD predicts a drop in mercury in a few sections of the state due to thunderstorm activity. The Norwester is expected to drop temperatures by 2 degrees Celsius around May 1-2, according to the MeT office.

On May 1, thunderstorms with lightning are very likely to occur in Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara Cuttack, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput, and Sundargarh districts, with light to moderate rain in coastal Odisha, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Dhenkanal, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Koraput and Sundargarh districts on May 1.

Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Jajpur, Bhadrak, and Balasore districts are predicted to see similar weather. During this time, light to moderate rain/thunderstorms are likely in Malkangiri, Koraput, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Nayagarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Jajpur, Bhadrak, and Balasore districts.
