Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has chosen to expand the inoculation push across the state, exceeding the 3.5 lakh doses per day objective, due to the availability of appropriate vaccine doses.

Additional Chief Secretary (Health) PK Mohapatra reminded Collectors, Municipal Commissioners, and CDMOs in a letter that the Health Ministry had virtually quadrupled the monthly vaccine distribution to states, and that faster vaccine use will result in larger allocation.

He also mentioned that the issue of syringe availability had been resolved.

According to Mohapatra, three groups should be prioritised. Beneficiaries who have missed their second dose, as well as teachers and non-teaching staff from public and private schools, and pregnant women, should be given the vaccination first, he said.

The districts have been instructed to prepare and ramp up the vaccination campaign in order to meet the state's 3.5 lakh doses per day objective.
