Omicron cases: 404 unidentified foreign returnees in Cuttack

Cuttack: The administration is in a hard place due to a lack of information concerning travel history and details of persons who flew into Cuttack district from 'at risk' countries.

Only 27 of the 431 people who returned to the district from abroad, notably Africa, between November 22 and December 7 have been identified, according to sources. Despite the fact that these travellers tested negative for COVID, they were ordered to stay in isolation for seven days before having an RT-PCR test on the eighth day.

The administration, on the other hand, has been unable to reach the remaining 404 foreign returnees.

"While some of them do not answer the phone, others' phones are either switched off or unavailable." TNIE quoted CDMO Satyabrat Chhotray as adding, "Some have not stated their correct address."

District Covid Nodal Officer Dr Umesh Ray informed the national newspaper that if the returnees remain uncommunicated, health officials will enlist the help of the police to track them down.

Odisha told the Centre and states during a high-level virtual conference on Thursday that 1,134 foreign returnees to Odisha had registered in the 'Air Subidha' site, and four of them had tested positive for COVID-19—two each from Jajpur and Sundargarh districts. Their samples were sent off to be sequenced.
