Bhubaneswar: Prem Anand, a prominent Ollywood composer known for his musical experimentation, is planning to introduce the A cappella music format to Odisha for a new song about the Puri Jagannath shrine.

“It's the first time in Odisha that I've written an a cappella song. The artists sing without using instruments in this format. Instead of using instruments, singers' vocal chords are employed instead. The singers used their music voices, rhythm voices, and percussion voices, among other things, to create the song,” he explained.

He went on to say, "This music type is popular in Hollywood."

15 well-known Odisha singers have contributed their vocals to the song, according to Anand. Sricharan Mohanty, Ashutosh Mohanty, Sabisesh Mishra, Samikshya Mishra, Lopamudra Dash, Arpita Chodhury, Rojalin Sahu, Rojalin Sahu, Diptirekha Padhi, Sohini Mishra, Biswajit Mohapatea, Goutam Giri, Bishnu Mohan Kabi, Abhijit Mishra, Shasank Sekhar Sahoo and Satyajeet Pradhan.

Devidutta Mohanty wrote the song, which will be released by the end of August.

“The song will tell the storey of the Jagannath temple's past as well as the deities' siblings. However, no one knows for sure about Sri Mandir's early past, which has been the site of numerous incidents over the years. The song will attempt to reproduce the myths around the sister deities in such a way that listeners can visualise them, according to Anand.

The song's composition was difficult, according to the composer. “It took 15 days to make this song since getting all of the singers together at the same time was difficult. We need to record the song in the presence of all the vocalists at the same time in the A cappella music format,” he explained.

“However, with Lord Jagannath's blessings, I was able to gather all of the major singers at the recording studio. “The singers were also quite cooperative with me,” he continued.

Anand's most recent experimental song was Odia Governor Prof Ganeshi Lal's rendition of "Ye mati Odisha, ye jati Odia" (This land is Odisha, and the race is Odia). The song was published on April 1 and received positive feedback from audiences all around the state.
