Rail traffic disrupted due to rain triggered landslide in Rayagada

Rayagada: Heavy rain-induced landslides in the Rayagada district of Odisha on Sunday delayed train service on the Koraput-Rayagada (KR) railway line.
Sources claim that massive rocks came crashing down onto the railroad lines at tunnel 34, which is located close to Andupadu and beneath Sesakhal panchayat. The area is located between Keutaguda and Sikarpai railway stations linking Rayagada and Koraput.
The Howrah-Jagdalpur Samaleswari Express and the Koraput-Visakhapatnam DMU trains were held at Sikarpai station because of the landslide. After stopping at the station for more than three hours, the DMU train made its way back to Koraput.
However, over six hours after being held at the station, the Samaleswari Express started its journey. After a special Railway team from Rayagada arrived at the location and cleared the tracks, the train departed for Howrah.
Three significant rivers in the area are currently in a spate, with their water levels steadily rising. At Gunupur, the Bansadhara River has passed the alert line. The river was running at 83.29 metres per second, while the warning and danger markers were at 83 and 84 metres respectively.
The water level has been steadily rising as a result of heavy and persistent rain in the higher catchment areas of Bansadhara in Chandrapur, Muniguda, and Gudari.
The Jhanjabati and Nagabali rivers are also experiencing a spate. In the lack of a device to gauge the levels of the two rivers, the district administration used public address systems to warn residents of low-lying areas.
As many as 11 blocks in the district have been continuously receiving rain since previous night, according to the local Met office, disrupting regular life. Chandrapur block in the district had the highest amount of rainfall (74.3 mm), followed by Gunupur with 46 mm, Rayagada with 25.2 mm, Kolnara with 31.2 mm, Kalyansinghpur with 46.4 mm, Kasipur with 59 mm, Padmapur with 46.4 mm, Gudari with 57 mm, Ramanaguda with 51.4 mm, Bisamakatak with 24.2 mm, and Munigu
