Sand Artist Sudarsan Pattnaik Wishes ‘Happy Janmashtami’

Bhubaneswar: To wish everyone a happy Janmashtami, Sudarsan Pattnaik, an internationally renowned sand artist, sculpted a statue of Lord Krishna out of sand.

Pattnaik shared a photo of his sand sculpture at Bhubaneswar's Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) on Twitter. "Warm wishes for Janmashtami to everyone. May Lord Krishna infuse everyone's life with love and serenity," he wrote.

The Hindu holiday of Janmashtami commemorates the birth of Lord Krishna, which is said to have taken place in Mathura at midnight on the eighth day of the Bhadrapada month.

People observe Janmashtami in Odisha, particularly in the Puri area, by fasting and engaging in religious observances until midnight. The 10th chapter of the Bhagavata Purana, which is devoted to Lord Krishna's life, is read aloud. The happy celebration of Lord Krishna's foster parents Nanda and Yashoda is referred to as "Nanda Ucchhaba" and takes place the following day.

On Janmashtami, the devotees fast the entire day. When performing their "abhisheka" ritual, they carry water from the Ganga to bathe Radha Madhaba. At midnight, a lavish "abhisheka" is performed for the little Radha Madhaba.
