Cuttack: At the Maa Bhattarika temple in Cuttack, Odisha, which has been inundated by floodwaters, Additional Tehsildar Tapan Kumar Parida has issued prohibition orders under Section 144.

Sources claim that the prohibitive measures were put in place when crowds came to watch flooding enter the temple's innermost sanctorum. Due to strong water currents, access to the temple grounds has been limited.

On Sunday, local MLA Debi Mishra went to the shrine to assess the flood condition. The BJD lawmaker visited the temple's flooded grounds in Sasanga village, which is part of his Badamba constituency, and spoke with its servants and residents. The temple is situated on the banks of the Mahanadi river.

The god is safe, the MLA assured the reporters following the visit despite the temple being nearly underwater. The idol would be moved to a secure location in the event of further water inflow, he added.

"The Mahanadi is expected to have a medium-level flood. Mundali is anticipated to receive 10.5 L cusecs of water. Collectors are prepared for a potential flood catastrophe and are on high alert. People would be transferred to safer areas wherever there is a hazard, according to Odisha Chief Secy Suresh Mahapatra.

After reviewing the situation, Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Pradeep Kumar Jena announced that 22 rescue teams, made up of members of the NDRF, ODARF, and Fire Service, had been dispatched to the districts of Puri, Khurda, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, and Cuttack.
