Three arrested for honour killing in Odisha’s Phulbani

Phulbani: In connection with a suspected honour killing, three family members were detained on Tuesday in the Kandhamal district of Odisha's Talipada village, which is under the jurisdiction of the Baliguda police.

Dushasan Malik, Girish Malik, and Nilabanta Malik were among those detained.

Sources claim that Sukadev Rana had an affair with a girl from the family, who vehemently objected to the relationship, in the Boudh district's Ghantapada hamlet, which is within the jurisdiction of the Kantamal police.

The girl invited him to visit her village on August 26. The girl's father and two cousins kidnapped the young man and beat him to death while they were talking. The body was later thrown in a neighbouring woodland.

Sukadev's family members reported him missing to the local police after he failed to return home. After an investigation, police detained the group, who admitted to killing Sukadev and hiding the body in the woods.

According to the sources, the body has been transferred to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur for a postmortem while the three have been sent to court.
