Two newborn infants pass away in government hospital

Bhadrak: In the wake of the deaths of two newborn babies at a government hospital in Chandbali, in the Bhadrak district of Odisha, the relatives claimed that medical malpractice was to blame.

Although the infants couldn't be spared, the mother's health was reported to be stable after giving birth to twins. Mani Das, a resident of the village of Jagannathpur in the district's Chandbali block, was given credit for the woman.

She experienced severe labour pains, and her husband Basant Das immediately brought her to the hospital. According to family members, the nurses had to handle the delivery after she was admitted to the gynaecology department because there was no doctor on staff.

The mom was in excruciating pain as a dead baby boy was born, but no doctor was in sight. After several requests, another baby was delivered three hours after the doctor's arrival. However, after a few minutes, the infant passed away.

Furious about the tragedy, the family members sought harsh punishment for the doctor and accused the hospital of incompetence. The doctor, who has been accused of negligence, was not available for comment.

Santosh Kumar Prusty, an additional district medical officer, suggested that the babies' low weight may have contributed to their deaths. He indicated that the situation will be looked into and that if any flaws were discovered, they would be addressed.
